Why Wear Merino Wool?

Most of the hats offered at Joining Yarns are made with merino wool. I love working with merino because its soft and luxurious, and I know it will feel cozy for my customers. But merino wool has so much more to offer than softness.

Merino wool is a natural material which lends it towards sustainability. I'm careful to choose yarns that are ethically made (no harmful practices for the sheep like mulesing), provide fair wages for the spinners and dyers, and use safe, OEKO-TEX certified dyes.

Merino is temperature regulating, so it will keep you warm without overheating you. It also wicks sweat away without absorbing it, keeping you dry.

Merino is has antibacterial properties which make it odor resistant, so it doesn't need to be washed as often.

It's compostable. If your hat gets worn out (and it could last decades), you can just pop off the pom and toss it in the compost!

Merino is more fire resistant than synthetic fibers--this can be useful for camping!

And did I mention it's SO SOFT?!

Merino is such a great option whether you're looking for comfort, style, or outdoor performance.  Shop merino accessories here!
